  • Things are a-changing in movie distribution

Whether or not you agree with Michael Moore's movies, there should be one thing you have to respect about him. He's about to release a $2M movie he's produced out for free download. He's challenging the media distribution model. "This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans. The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November." – Michael Moore You can sign up to be notified when the movie is made available...

  • A Comparison of 3 Personal Media Players

You might be asking what a Personal Media Player is. It's basically an MP3 player, but also includes capabilities for playing back video files. The market for this type of device exploded last year when Apple came out with new versions of their iPod and Nano players. At the time there were other vendors supplying the market with video players, but Apple brought it to the mainstream. I've had experience with 2 models of recent portable media players and will be getting a 3rd. The current information...
  • Movie Review: Wedding Crashers (4/5)

We went out on Friday night to see Wedding Crashers. It was fricken hilarious! I really liked Vince Vaughn in just about everything I've seen him in. I think that he and Owen Wilson make a good comedy pair. Thought not as much as Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller. =8)...

  • Movie Review: War of the Worlds (4/5)

So I went out and watched War of the Worlds on Thursday. This is a sci-fi horror movie. There are several freak-out moments in the movie that were well done, as well as some real "holy crap" moments like the “fire train“. They've taken more license with an adaptation of the original H G Wells story by playing out a story of Cruise on the run with his family. Count on Spielberg to run with that. Cruise's character has 2 kids, a teen boy and a little girl. The girl is played by Dakota Fanning , the...

  • Movie Review: Constantine (4/5)

So we went out and saw this on Saturday. It was pretty good. There were some unfortunate storyline and character elements that prevented this from being good. (Keep in mind, I mark hard!) The casting of the devil was at best, unfortunate. The actor, Peter Stormare, is someone you've probably seen before in many movies and some TV shows. He just wasn't evil enough... when I see him I think “homeless guy“, not “the Devil“. ......

  • Movie Review: Chronicles of Riddick

I saw The Chronicles of Riddick on opening night (July 12). I liked Pitch Black and I'm glad they decided to take the Riddick character for another ride. I think this show would have been better if they didn't have all the action scenes done in “Ritalin-time“ -- quick shots, strobes, flash images, etc.. Maybe I'm just gettin' old, but I would have enjoyed the fight scenes more if they were shots were a bit longer. Riddick : Vin Diesel Good old Vinnie. Kyra : Alexa Davalos Not too bad for the first...

  • Movie Review: Van Helsing (2004)

I saw this one on Sunday night, after my unfulfilling Friday night experience with Troy. I probably should have waited for this one to come out on Video. It's got Kate Beckinsale in it, and I liked her from Underworld (must be the cat suit!), so I had some hopes for her here. It's also got Hugh Jackman , and I like him as a skinnier representation of Wolverine, so I had some expectations for him here as well. Kate Beckinsales attempt at a Romanian accent just ruined the scene whenever she was talking...

  • Movie Review: Troy (2004)

It's rare that I'll actually go out and watch a movie on opening night. I did do it for Troy , however. Probably the reason I did this time is because Cindy says “it's got Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom in it!“. Well it should have some good fight scenes, right? Well, it's got fight scenes... L et's get this out of the way early. I wasn't very happy with the movie. This is a cheezy Hollywood-fluff movie full of Hollywood cliches. There weren't any memorable performances from the cast, except for perhaps...

  • Movie Review: Kill Bill vol 2

I agree with most of the reviews, it is slower than vol1 with less action and focuses more on character development. To be fair, it's not Kill Bill vol 1, and wasn't meant to be. This one though was a bit different in a key way. It was cheezier . It had several nods to kung-fu movies of old, which was cute, and I think is a bit of an inside joke for people who grew up watching "Kung Fu" the TV series. Unless you're a huge fan of Quentin, or David Carradine, or Uma -- you may want to wait to rent...
