AllOfMP3.com - Now THAT's a price point!

Okay, so I've been listening to the TWiT (This Week in Tech) podcast on my drive to and from work over the last couple weeks.  On episode 24, from September 25th, where they talked about iTunes song pricing... and also mentioned a site "AllOfMP3.com".  The reason I even mention another online MP3 site is that the per song prices on this site are cheap.  Really cheap.

As an example, for Cheryl Crowe's most recent album "Wildflower" that was released a few weeks ago is up on the site, and the total cost for all songs on the album is... wait for it...  $1.43US.  That's right, a buch fourty-three!

This site appears to have none of the problems you'll see on most, if not all, other online music sales sites on the internet.

  1. You can download individual songs without buying the whole album.
  2. The quality of the files is as good as you want it.  (In fact for a lot of their songs you can request an online encode into whatever format of file at whatever quality you want!)
  3. And for me, the most important point:  There is no copy protection on these files, whatsoever.  You're allowed to move them to whatever media player you use, burn them to a CD, or whatever.
  4. The price is right!  Forget 0.99c per song, which will end up costing you the same as if you purchased the entire CD at a store...  they charge you for the size of the music file.  The larger/longer the encoded file, the higher the price.  Most of their songs are on the order of 0.10 to 0.20c per song.

"More precisely, you will be charged $0.02, only two cents of a US dollar, for each Megabyte of downloaded music."
  5. At prices like that, you have to wonder if it's a legit site.  Well, it's been around since 2001.  It's a legal website.  No kidding...  They've apparently signed up the proper copyright and distribution stuff required within their host country, Russia.  (See other site reviews below.)
  6. They have a good selection.  You're not going to spend your time looking at 100's of bands you've never heard of while searching for the one you really want.
  7. So following up on my earlier post about getting my music on my music players...  I'll be visiting this site often.  Guaranteed.
