  • My music, on my devices, on my time...

Relating to a post by Russ Nemhauser about how it seems that everyone who's legitimately selling music online seems to unfairly limit its use: Shouldn't I be able to buy a song from ANY vendor and play it on ANY device? Even if I have to put a password in I'm happy to do that. I've never understood why it's so important to Microsoft to proliferate the WMA format. MP3 is pretty great. In fact, I rip all my CDs as MP3s, not WMAs because virtually every portable device can play MP3 files. What's the...

  • Brief impressions of PDC 2005

I spent the week of September 12th through 16th in LA at Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC) 2005. There was a lot to see at this years show! Visual Studio 2005 Lots of cool stuff to be seen here. The new IDE has a bunch of new features that make life easier when building applications. Things like code snippets, much better designer support, a more advanced intellisense, and new "strip" controls (dockable application elements like Office has for menus and toolbars, and that we're using...

  • I've returned from the PDC!

So I'm back... time to post some of my observations. This is the first year I stayed at a hotel that was partnering with MS for the show, and as a result we had a very convenient bus service every 10-15minutes between the hotels and the convention center. I expect I would have been able to use the bus service even if I was staying at another non-partnered hotel in downtown as I could have just walked to a location where the bus stops. Firstly, the hotel room. In an earlier post I mentioned that the...
  • That's never a good sign...

You'd think I was a tester or something... This'll teach me to check my session schedule on commnet while at the PDC! =8) Never a good sign.
  • So I'm at the PDC

I'm thinking it would have been better to stay at one of the smaller hotels on the same street the convention center is on since that would have saved me the effort of wandering around downtown looking for the location where we're to get picked up by the shuttle bus. Apparently my hotel, The Standard, isn't on the list of hotels they actually stop at . But I digress... The Standard is an interesting hotel... very techy LED message boards in the lobby, with a truely minimalist layout to the rooms...
  • Trackback issue fixed?

I think the trackback issue I'd reported previously has been fixed. Others seem to have the same problems I did so I hope they find this and it's useful to them... First some historical context... Skip to the bottom if you just want to know about the fix. ;) Definition of a " trackback ": When other bloggers post entries on their blogs and those entries contain references to posts I've made on my blog, there should be an automatic notification received by my blog that will log who's referring to...
